Club history

In 1986 a local lady enjoyed running a 10k race in Nottingham and wanted to continue running. She persevered on her own but found in hard going so decided to see if other ladies would be interested in forming a running group. She put up some flyers and was amazed by the response at the inaugural meeting at the Organ Inn (now JT's) in April 87. Most of the 47 women who attended were complete beginners who were attracted by the idea of a women only group because they felt uncomfortable with joining established mixed clubs. So Epsom Allsorts Ladies Running Club was born. On 13 September 1987 fifty-seven Allsorts made up 4.5% of the field at the 10k Women's Own/Nike race in Hyde Park, one of the biggest turnouts from a single club.

From these beginnings the club has grown and developed over the years with our greatest attraction being our ladies only status. Our members still participate in races all around the country and abroad. Whilst we may not often finish in the honours, we quite regularly have age group winners and at local races still manage to often field the largest single club turnout; our green vests are well known.
